People do a lot of silly things and snortable chocolate is one of the latest crazes to make waves.

The idea comes from Europe but has only recently arrived in the states, with Coco Loko being the biggest brand currently in operation. Well, the idea might not survive too long as the FDA has issued a warning in which it calls Coco Loko's snortable chocolate powder an "alternative to illicit street drugs and that the products, as labeled and marketed, may pose safety concerns".

Senator Chuck Schumer asked the FDA to investigate the matter earlier this year, claiming that the powders have a lot of similarities with drugs and no nutritional or health benefits.

“Encouraging the use of snortable chocolate as an alternative to illegal street drugs is not acceptable–there are very real consequences to snorting any powder, not to mention the societal dangers of promoting drug abuse,” says FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb.

The powder can cause a variety of health issues including vocal cord spasms, restricted respiratory passages and asthma.

Coco Loko has 15 days to respond to the FDA's warning or it could risk having the product blocked.
